Glass Floor Geothermal at Loyola Univ: it's not art, but it's COOL!

Over the summer, Loyola University in Chicago completed construction on their Center For Sustainable Urban Living facility. The building boasts the largest geothermal complex in Chicago, including 90 geothermal wells, 500 feet deep, providing over 700 tons of cooling energy. The architect Solomon Cordwell Buenz designed glass flooring to be suspended over these wells, allowing pedestrians to not only look down into the pits, but also see the array of monitoring gauges and instrumentation. liquidoranges relationship with Specialty Raised Flooring allowed us to develop and provide structural glass floor panels that work within SRF's retrofit frame system, installing in standard Tate pedestal and grid, in conjunction with standard Co250 floor panels. The results are pretty amazing to see.

Glass Bar Top at OPUS Restaurant

On July 11, 2013, the OPUS Restaurant opened at 87 Washington Street, Salem, MA. liquidoranges produced the art glass bar top, measuring approximately 85 feet in length, with 180 degree bends, as well as 90 and 45 degree transitions. The bar top was produced in large laminated tempered glass sections, based on a digital template generated by Ipswich Cabinetry. The accuracy of digitizing the counter top template meant we were able to produce all glass panels held to a 1/16" tolerance. In construction, this is considered extremely tight when mixed materials, mixed trades from opposite ends of the state are producing their part separately. Every piece of the glass counter set in place precisely as it was designed, and across the entire length of the serpentine top, side-to-side and end-to-end tolerance was maintained, with no need what so ever to modify anything in the field. Here's a photo of Reese Schroeder at the bar, and a drawing of the bar layout.REESE SCHROEDER
